Devon has plans to develop Pike, a new in-situ oil sands project in the Southern Athabasca Oil Sands region. Devon and BP Canada Energy each hold a 50 percent working interest in the Pike lands, located approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Conklin, Alberta.
The first project proposed on the Pike lands, Pike 1, is expected to produce up to 109,000 barrels per day (bpd) of bitumen. Pike 1 will be constructed in phases over a three to four year period with initial production expected to begin in 2016. Devon will construct and operate the facility, which is immediately south of Devon’s existing Jackfish operations. Pike 1 will continue to use the same well-established Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology currently employed by Devon at the Jackfish facilities to recover bitumen.
- Location: Between Fort McMurray, Alberta, and Lac La Biche, Alberta, in parts of Townships 73, 74 and 75 Ranges 5, 6 and 7 W4M
- Working Interest: Devon holds 50 percent WI in the lands associated with the Pike 1 Project
- Production: up to 109, 000 barrels per day
